How to Cook Crab and Cheese Wontons

Ingredients needed to make Crab and Cheese Wontons:

  • 1 package crabmeat
  • 2 packages cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups all purpose flour, plus extra if necessary
  • 1 egg
  • ¾ cup cup water
  • 3 scallions, minced
  • 1 bottle peanut oil
  • ½ tsp salt

Cooking instructions for Crab and Cheese Wontons:

  • To make the wonton wrappers, stir the measured salt into flour and set aside.
  • Crack an egg into a small bowl and beat it along with ¼ cup water until they blend into a pale, yellow mixture.
  • Drizzle it into the seasoned flour and add splashes of water, while kneading it into the mixture until they form a smooth dough.
  • Knead it further for several minutes to make it more pliant and roll it into a tight ball.
  • Transfer it into a large, lightly-greased bowl and wrap it up with a moist kitchen towel.
  • Let it stand for an hour and them split it into quarters.
  • Place one of it onto a floured counter and flatten it out, using floured rolling pin, into very papery-thin rectangle; dust it with flour from time to time to ease out the process.
  • Slice the dough sheet into 3’’ squares and set them aside, covered with a moist towel, until rest of the dough is used up to make the remaining wrappers.
  • To make the filling, chop the crabmeat into very fine bits and toss them into a bowl.
  • Sprinkle the minced scallions into it and spoon in the soft cream cheese.
  • Stir them all together until mixed thoroughly and spoon a heaping tbsp of it into the middle of one wonton wrapper.
  • Paint few drops of water along the edges and fold each side halfway through the filling.
  • Pinch the open ends of either ends together to seal and set aside until rest of the wonton wrappers are stuffed.
  • Empty the entire bottle of peanut oil into a deep-fryer and heat it over moderately high flame.
  • Lower the wontons into it, 2 at a time, and deep-fry until they turn golden brown.
  • Drain them out onto a plate lined with paper towels to get rid of excess oil.
  • Set aside until cool enough to handle.
  • Serve warm alongside your favorite Asian dipping sauce.
